Tea tree for yeast infections,
a strong medicine

tea tree for yeast infections

Using tea tree for yeast infections works by inhibiting the growth of the candida. Whereas chamomile works by producing "T" cells that eat the yeast, it kills the candida itself.
For best results, alternate with a probiotic (like yogurt or cabbage. )

It's an anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic. It also is an immunostimulant.

Do NOT ingest! It suppresses the central nervous system, and small ingested doses can be fatal.
Some symptoms of an overdose are: Impaired coordination, excessive drowsiness, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, unconsciousness, and a coma.

It is also suspected of causing hormonal changes (like breasts in young men).
If you have hormonal cancers, are nursing, or pregnant, you would probably be best served by avoiding this.

Tea tree is strong. It can cause mucus membrane irritation and even blistering; So, dilute and use sparingly.

As a yeast infection treatment, It works best as a vapor, pessary, douche or sitzbath.

Vapor

If you don't have a vaporizer to add the oil to, make a "cup of tea" inhaler.
Hot water, and about 4 drops.
Hold it up to your mouth and nose and breath deeply.
This method works best if your infection has reached the lungs.

Pessary

(A pellet vaginally inserted) This is probably the easiest way to use it.
You can buy these already prepared at almost any health food store.

If you want to make it yourself, grab a tampon that has a cardboard (or plastic) applicator,
Smear a thin film KY lube over the end to keep the oil from being absorbed by the tampon,
Apply a couple drops (3 or 4) to the end and insert.

It's said to be good for about 24 hours, I'd go ahead and switch it 12 hours later.
Upon wake up, and right before bedtime.

Douche

Fill douche with warm water,
Add 3 or 4 drops, shake and use.

Sitzbath

Ready your sitzbath,
Add about 10 drops or half a spoonful.

Another handy hint

You can dilute with a little castor oil, but alcohol (like vodka) seems to work a trifle better.

Tea tree and sage are complimentary to each other.
Sage helps relieve the itching and swelling.

Since using it can erase all your good flora, make sure that you alternate with a probiotic like yogurt or cabbage.

I got this from my herbalist library, in one of my an old folk lore books.
You could use it as either a treatment, or as an itch relief.

Mix some alcohol,
A small amount of castor oil,
3 or 4 drops of tea tree,
add a sprig of sage in a little bottle and shake.
Let it set for a day or two.
Shake well before using a piece of cloth to apply.

A reminder that using home remedies for yeast infections works best when you alternate treatment at least every week, and do not let the candida get used to one thing.
